The Sacrament of Confirmation marks the completion of initiation into the Catholic Church, and the conferral of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit and all associated graces! Catholic youth usually receive confirmation around the age of 14, and details for that process are below.
Adults who wish to complete their sacraments by receiving Confirmation will normally do so through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
Step 1: Call the Parish at (410) 272-4535 to schedule an appointment
Step: 2: Attend an initial meeting with to introduce you to what is required for Confirmation
Step 3: Enter a 1 year Confirmation process of discernment and service
Step 4: More immediately to the date of Confirmation, participate in a 12 week series of sessions (this includes 6 weeks in the Fall for youth AND parent(s) and a further 6 weeks in the new year for the youth alone.)
Step 5: A practical "internship" ... learning about various parish ministries by gaining hands-on experience with them (this usually takes place on Sundays between Masses, or otherwise by appt)
Step 6: Attend a Spring Confirmation Retreat!
Step 7: Write a letter to the Archbishop requesting healing in the Spirit!
Step 8: Attend Confirmation Mass, date TBD
Like the other Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism & First Eucharist) Confirmation is far more than just a "rite of passage" ... rather it is a taking on of the adult responsibilities of service and faith in the Catholic Church, and the beginning of a lifetime of commitment to God and community. We work very hard to make the process fun and enjoyable for our youth, and full of active learning. It is our hope that by the time Confirmation Mass comes, your young people will have made new friends, and become connected to strong, faithful adults in the Parish who model what it is to become a Christian Catholic grownup!
