St. Joan of Arc is blessed with a magnificent digital Church Organ that of late has been underutilized! Our organ received a significant $70k upgrade in 2002 by Walker Technical Company Inc., under then music director Mr. David Dasch, and was relocated to the newly built choir loft. The sound palette was expanded, and a state-of-the-art speaker system was installed to fully realize the potential of the instrument. With three manuals and four organ divisions this organ would be worthy of many a cathedral, so we are very blessed to have such a resource at our disposal in a smaller parish like ours!
For various practical, logistical, architectural and stylistic reasons our music ministry has been in the front of the church for the most part in recent years, making the organ difficult to incorporate on a regular basis. However, beginning September 7th, we have decided to make the Saturday 5 PM Mass an intentionally organ-based Mass in a slightly more traditional style. There are many ways of praying and this will provide an opportunity for those who prefer a more ‘classic’ weekend Mass experience to worship accordingly. Our Sunday morning Masses will continue as normal, with our choirs returning September 8th, and of course incorporating the organ when appropriate and logistically practical.
So, the organ has been dusted off, the musicians are practicing, and we look forward to trying something ‘new and old’ beginning Saturday, September 7th at 5 PM Mass.
